How to get Siren on your phone

Siren is not in the App Store or on Google Play. You add it from your browser in about a minute, and after that it sits on your home screen and opens like any other app.

Open it on the phone you carry

Installing is something you do from the phone itself. Point its camera at the square, or type the address in.

mysiren.app

Before you start

  • An invite code from a woman already on Siren. Without one, you can ask three members to let you in.

  • The phone you carry. Not a shared tablet, and not a family computer.

  • Safari on iPhone, or Chrome on Android. Other browsers often cannot add a site to the home screen.

Five steps

  1. 1

    Open mysiren.app

Type mysiren.app into the browser on your phone, or point the camera at the square on this page.

  2. 2

Choose a cover, if you want one

If Siren should look like a calculator or a notes app, choose that before you add it: under Hide the app while you sign up, or under You → Safety and privacy → Stealth mode. The name and icon are fixed at the moment you add it.

  3. 3

Add it to your home screen

Follow the steps for your phone below. It takes three taps.

  4. 4

    Open it from the icon

From now on, open Siren from the icon, not from the browser. If it asks you to sign in again, get a code in the browser under You → Devices and alerts → Open Siren on another device, and type it under I already have an account. That spends none of your recovery codes.

  5. 5

    Turn on alerts

Go to You → Devices and alerts, tap Turn on alerts, then Send a test. Lock the phone: the test should still arrive. Without this, a silent SOS from your circle waits until you next look at your screen.

Adding it, phone by phone

On iPhone, from Safari

  1. Tap the Share button at the bottom of Safari.
  2. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  3. Open Siren from the icon after that, not from Safari.

On iPhone, alerts only reach you once Siren is on your Home Screen. Apple allows notifications to an installed app and to nothing else.

On Android, from Chrome

  1. Open the menu at the top right of Chrome.
  2. Tap Install app, or Add to Home screen.
  3. Open Siren from the icon after that, not from Chrome.

In another browser, look in its menu for Install app or Add to Home screen.

On a computer

  1. In Chrome or Edge, click the install icon at the right of the address bar, or find Install in the browser's menu.
  2. In Safari on a Mac, choose File, then Add to Dock.
  3. A computer is a second device. Link it from your phone under You → Devices and alerts → Open Siren on another device.

After you install

Updates

There is nothing to update by hand. Siren fetches its newest version when you open it, with no store and no download to approve.

Your browser history

Visiting mysiren.app leaves an entry in your browser's history, like any other site. Once Siren is on your home screen, delete that entry, or clear your history.

Removing it

Delete the icon as you would any app. To change the cover, delete it and add it again. Deleting the icon does not delete your account: that is under You → Account → Your data.

Why there is no store

Siren is in no app store, and that is deliberate. A store install is a permanent record in an account somebody else may be able to open — a shared Apple ID, a partner who checks a purchase history. No cover story inside an app can hide a row that lives outside it.

Nothing in a store account

No purchase history, no download to explain, nothing on an account shared with family. Delete the icon and it is gone, and clearing your browsing data takes the rest.

Free forever, for every woman here.
